A UK holidaymaker succumbed after attempting to consume 21 different cocktails on a Jamaican bar's menu, according to British reports.
53-year-old Timothy Southern, from Staffordshire, England, was holidaying with his family in Saint Ann, Jamaica, in May 2022, when he joined two Canadian women at a local bar. The women were attempting to complete a 21-drink challenge in honor of a birthday celebration, as reported by ITV News.
Prior to accepting this challenge, Southern had been consuming brandy and beer, as revealed by an inquiry.
He teamed up with the women and managed to down 12 cocktails before he retreated to his room at the Royal Decameron Club Caribbean. Tragically, he passed away there later.

Since then, his family has expressed their dissatisfaction with the initial medical care he received when his illness was first noticed.
"He was on his back choking. I put him in the recovery position and screamed for an ambulance," a family member said, per a report by ITV. "He was making a gurgling sound. As soon as he was in the recovery position he vomited. I was shouting his name with no response.
"When the nurse arrived I said had an ambulance been called, and she said 'no'. I thought she would take over. But that was not the case. I noticed he was starting to lose temperature. I checked his pulse and couldn't find it," they continued.
A family member was reportedly told by the nurse that Southern still had a pulse. This family member began to show signs of distress in reaction to Southern's apparent medical handling.
"I got a full look at his face and I thought he had passed away. I said, 'Don't just sit there looking at him, start CPR'. She only gave him chest compressions. Maybe if she had known what she was doing, maybe he would still be here."
A Kingston-based pathologist concluded that Southern's cause of death was "acute gastroenteritis due to alcohol consumption." However, according to ITV News, the inquest into Southern's toxicology report might take as long as three years to reach the U.K.
