White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the border was not "open" during a press conference on Monday and also suggested anyone saying otherwise was doing the work of human smugglers.
With the expiration of Title 42 looming, there is increased scrutiny on border security. Title 42 is a public health rule that has been in place since 2020 and has helped manage the border crisis by turning away migrants.
Border towns have expressed concern about increased pressure on the border but the White House hasn't given a clear explanation of how to handle the impact of the expected 9,000 to 15,000 new arrivals per day.
Jean-Pierre has responded by saying the end of Title 42 does not mean the border is open and anyone suggesting so is "spreading misinformation."
"I want to be very clear here. The fact is that the removal of Title 42 does not mean the border is open," Jean-Pierre said. "Anyone who suggests otherwise is simply doing the work of these smugglers who, again, are spreading misinformation which is very dangerous."
She continued, "It would be wrong to think the border is open. It is not open."
Twitter was in an uproar over her remarks. The Hill columnist Joe Concha tweeted, "KJP continues an epic run as WHPS…"

James Woods Reveals What He Thinks the Democrats Will Do in 2024
It's hard to imagine President Joe Biden running for re-election in 2024. With all of the Biden gaffes and brain freezes, it's hard to imagine anyone wants him leading our country four years from now.
That being said, who knows what the Democrats are going to do in 2024. California Governor Gavin Newsom has repeatedly denied he will run for president. Kamala Harris has botched her VP position so badly she's not even under consideration. Who the heck knows?
