Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.
Tributes are pouring in from Americans who admire his integrity and commitment to humanity. Many are remembering the peanut farmer turned one-term Georgia governor with deep affection.
During his campaign for president, Carter often traveled on "Peanut One," a playful nod to his humble roots as a peanut farmer.
Delta Air Lines shared a heartfelt tribute to Carter on X, accompanied by a touching video.
"Every time Jimmy Carter flew Delta, he shook hands with each person on the plane. Because that's who he was. Someone who treated people as people," the post read.
The video shows Carter warmly greeting fellow passengers, taking time to shake hands with everyone on board.
"Today we celebrate his life - a great friend, family man, Nobel Peace Prize winner and leader who showed us all how to properly treat those around us," Delta added in their post.
Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his dedication to peace, brokering agreements between Israel and Egypt, and his humanitarian efforts.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian also paid tribute to Carter on LinkedIn, reflecting on his "life in service to others."
"I will remember the countless days he spent at Habitat for Humanity builds and the time he took to shake hands with every Delta customer and employee when he flew with us," Bastian wrote.
He continued, "There is much we can learn from his kindness, compassion, and humility. He and Rosalynn meant a great deal to all of us at Delta and will be sorely missed."
Bastian concluded, "Their legacy lives on through The Carter Center and in the hearts of all those they’ve impacted."
