Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the connection between illegal immigration and skyrocketing housing costs is “as clear as day.” The Trump administration is working to reverse the chaos caused by the previous administration's lax border policies. This common-sense approach is already yielding positive results for American families.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner celebrated the economic victory on X. Turner posted, “6 months of ZERO illegals released into our country. 2 million illegals removed. Rents drop for the fourth straight month. Coincidence? I think not!”
Vance is clearly proud of the administration's progress. He said, “We are proud to be moving in the right direction. Still so much to do.”
Apartment median rents dropped 1% in November, marking the fourth straight month of decline. Rent prices are also down 1.1% compared to one year ago, providing much-needed relief to hard-hit American renters.
The administration’s hardline approach to immigration is the direct cause of this turnaround. The Department of Homeland Security confirms that over 2 million illegal immigrants have left the U.S. this year. This includes 1.6 million who voluntarily self-deported and more than 527,000 who were deported in enforcement operations.
Vance recently blamed expensive housing squarely on unchecked migration. He said that housing is expensive "because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants.”
Vance slammed the previous administration for creating the housing crisis. He said, “Illegal immigrants were taking houses that ought, by right, go to American citizens" at a time when the country wasn't “building enough new houses to begin with.”
The economic contrast is stark. Vance noted that the price of a new home “literally doubled in four years” under the Biden administration. In contrast, under the Trump administration, housing and rent prices “are up about 1% to 2% — actually in line with what you would like to see.”
President Donald Trump has moved fast on his campaign promises to secure the border. The administration is prioritizing large-scale enforcement and faster removals, leveraging ICE, Border Patrol, and cooperation with state agencies to restore Law and Order.
