California Governor Gavin Newsom's selection to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein has promptly removed online hints suggesting she resides in Maryland.
Screenshots from Laphonza Butler's profile on X, previously known as Twitter, indicate that she had "Maryland" as her location on Sunday, the day her nomination news broke. This detail on her profile has now been altered, with the location field left blank.
Butler, serving as the head of the pro-abortion organization EMILY's List, saw edits to her biography on the group's site shortly after the announcement of her Senate nomination. Earlier, the bio wrapped up stating, "She lives in Maryland with her partner Neneki Lee and their daughter Nylah." This statement has since been deleted.
Furthermore, an EMILY's List Federal Election Commission document also pinpointed Butler living in Silver Spring, Maryland as of Aug. 31.
EMILY's List and Butler did not provide immediate responses to inquiries from Fox News.
Following the passing of Feinstein at 90 years old last week, Newsom revealed Butler as her successor. Butler is now anticipated to complete the rest of Feinstein's tenure in Washington, D.C., leading up to the 2024 polls. The governor, in his remarks, characterized Butler as an "advocate for women and girls, a second-generation fighter for working people, and a trusted adviser to Vice President Harris."
"As we mourn the enormous loss of Senator Feinstein, the very freedoms she fought for — reproductive freedom, equal protection, and safety from gun violence — have never been under greater assault," Newsom added. "Laphonza will carry the baton left by Senator Feinstein, continue to break glass ceilings, and fight for all Californians in Washington D.C."

The office of Newsom informed Fox News Digital that, upon assuming the role of president at EMILY's List in 2021, Butler relocated to the suburbs close to Washington, D.C., and maintains a residence in California. They further mentioned that Butler intends to re-register as a voter in California prior to her inauguration.
Feinstein passed away on Thursday, following a prolonged health struggle. She held the distinction of being both the eldest member of Congress and the woman with the longest tenure in the Senate.
