Former Troubled Child Star Heads Back to the Big Screen With First Feature Role Since 2013

Lindsay Lohan is making a big return to the big screen with the "Freaky Friday" sequel.

This week, Lohan and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis announced the project. They posed in front of swapped trailers, fitting the film's theme. Lohan captioned, "The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!"

The 2003 film featured Lohan as Anna Coleman and Curtis as Tess Coleman. The mother-daughter duo understands each other better after a body-swap.

"Freaky Friday 2" will hit theaters in 2025, but plot details are still secret.

Lohan and Curtis have hinted at the sequel for years. In 2022, Curtis mentioned on "The View," "I've already written to Disney, my friends at Disney," referring to her recent role in "Haunted Mansion."

Curtis pitched, "Let me be the grandma! Let me be the old grandma who switches places. Lindsay can be the sexy grandma, happy with Mark Harmon. I want to see Lindsay as the hot grandma and me handling toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent as an old lady."

In 2023, Lohan told Bustle, "I can’t say much, but we are going to be doing it. I hope it’s sooner rather than later."

This sequel is Lohan's first major theatrical role since 2013’s "The Canyons." She has been in streaming projects after overcoming legal and substance abuse issues and welcoming her first child last year.

Lohan's breakthrough came in the 1998 Disney remake of "The Parent Trap," playing twins Hallie and Annie to critical acclaim.

She then starred in "Freaky Friday" with Curtis and "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen."

In 2004, Lohan became a mega star with her role in "Mean Girls," a beloved teen comedy.

But success brought paparazzi attention and a party girl reputation, affecting her work.

In 2005, "Herbie: Fully Loaded" production stopped for three days due to Lohan’s "exhaustion."

In 2006, she was hospitalized for being "overheated and exhausted" while filming "Georgia Rule" with Jane Fonda. A leaked letter from the production company head criticized her "various late arrivals and absences from the set."

A year later, Lohan entered rehab during the filming of "I Know Who Killed Me."
