Former GOP Leader Tumbles While Exiting Senate Chamber

Former Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., fell on a small set of stairs Wednesday. He was leaving the Senate chamber after a confirmation vote for HUD secretary nominee Scott Turner.

McConnell, 82, is a survivor of childhood polio. He lost his balance on the stairs but was quickly helped by Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla.

It’s unclear if he suffered any injuries. However, Fox News was told he appears to be OK.

"Senator McConnell is fine. The lingering effects of polio in his left leg will not disrupt his regular schedule of work," said a McConnell spokesperson.

This isn’t the first time McConnell has taken a fall. He has experienced several tumbles in recent years.

Most recently, he fell at the Capitol in December. It happened as he was leaving a Senate GOP luncheon.
