Florida Rep. Turns His Back on DeSantis

On Thursday, Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) announced his endorsement of former President Donald Trump over Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 GOP presidential primary. Waltz issued an exclusive statement to Breitbart News endorsing Trump, becoming the latest Florida Republican to do so.

Ahead of its public release, Waltz's team exclusively provided his statement endorsing Trump to Breitbart News. In the statement, Waltz emphasized that he believes President Joe Biden's lack of leadership has been "disastrous" for the United States.

“These last two years under Joe Biden have been disastrous for our country,” Waltz said. “Inflation is rampant, our southern border is wide open, China is on the rise and embarrassing us on the global stage, the left have wasted trillions of dollars, and the Washington bureaucracy is worse than ever before. Biden’s devastating handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan killed 13 of our brothers and sisters. Biden’s actions have not only weakened the U.S. but emboldened terrorists around the world who seek to strike back at America. We need experienced and proven leadership back in the White House.”

Waltz went on to declare his endorsement of Trump for the 2024 presidential race, emphasizing national security issues and Trump's achievements during his first term in the White House as his reasons for doing so.

Waltz's endorsement holds even greater significance among House Republicans in Florida due to his position as the immediate successor to Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida's sixth congressional district. DeSantis vacated his seat in September 2018 during his run for governor, leaving it vacant until the next Congress. Waltz won the election and began representing the district in January 2019. He has since been re-elected for two additional terms and is currently serving his third term in Congress.

Because Rep. Michael Waltz succeeded Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida's sixth congressional district after DeSantis vacated his seat during his run for governor in September 2018, his endorsement carries even more weight among House Republicans in Florida. Waltz won the election and assumed the position in January 2019, and has since been re-elected for two additional terms, currently serving his third term in Congress.

The AUMF proposal put forward by Waltz and Crenshaw has drawn criticism from Mexico's president, but Trump's endorsement of the idea and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's support make it a real possibility if Trump and the GOP are successful in 2024. This has caused shock in Mexico, but the potential for military action against the cartels is now a distinct possibility.

“The many crises facing our country demands bold leadership like President Trump has demonstrated,” Waltz pointed out in his statement endorsing Trump. “Now more than ever we need him back in the White House to bring back U.S. leadership and credibility.”

Waltz continued his endorsement of Trump, stating that the numerous crises the country is facing require bold leadership, which he believes Trump has demonstrated. He emphasized that it is more important than ever to have Trump back in the White House to restore U.S. leadership and credibility.
