Florida Mother Does Unthinkable Act While Going to Get Drunk in a Bar

A woman from Florida is facing charges of child neglect following her arrest by authorities, who claim she abandoned her 7-year-old child in an unattended and unlocked vehicle for an extended period while she indulged in alcohol at a nearby bar.

Upon receiving a call, officers from the DeLand Police Department arrived at The Perfect Spot Bar shortly before 3 a.m. on a Sunday. The call was made after the young girl sought assistance at the establishment, attempting to locate her mother, as stated in a police press statement.

Further investigation by the police confirmed that the child was left alone in a car that was not only unlocked but also switched off, situated in a poorly lit parking lot devoid of illumination.

While the girl was being cared for by one of the officers at the scene, fellow officers initiated a search for 35-year-old Veronica Elliott. Elliott was eventually found by the authorities several hours subsequent to their search commencement.

Authorities report that at approximately 6:30 a.m., Elliott approached the scene inquiring about the current time. She appeared disheveled, "covered in dirt, swaying with movements," barefoot, and exhibited an element of surprise. Elliott conveyed to the officers that her intention was to leave her daughter unattended for only 10 minutes.

Allegedly, Elliott displayed slurred speech and her physical comportment suggested that she was someone experiencing the effects of intoxication.

She faced charges of child neglect without great bodily harm and was processed at the Volusia County Branch Jail. After posting a $2,500 bond, she has been released.

Custody of her daughter was assumed by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
