As if the “fact-checkers” weren’t already obnoxious enough, Facebook announced his week that they will start adding information labels to posts about global warming. The labels will direct people to the “climate change information hub.”
So I suppose posting things about how global warming is a hoax would be a quick trip to Facebook jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.
“The spread of damaging falsehoods endangers the level of international cooperation required to prevent catastrophic global warming. Facebook is in a unique position to counter the circulation of online misinformation, and the new climate ‘mythbusting’ section is an important step toward debunking dangerous falsehoods,” said Sander van der Linden of the University of Cambridge.
NBC News reports Facebook will begin debunking commonly myths about climate change, continuing to define what is and isn’t “misinformation,” something which the company previously claimed it would not do.
Facebook said that it is adding a section to its climate change information hub that will feature facts with information about misinformation and falsehoods relating to climate change. Some of these facts will include data about the decline of polar bear populations due to global warming as well as information about the effects of carbon dioxide on plant life.
Facebook recently introduced information hubs and has relied on them as part of its tactic to combat what it considers misinformation across its services. This is a quick change of pace considering CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s comments in May when he defended unrestricted speech on the platform and said he did not think that “Facebook or internet platforms in general should be arbiters of truth.”
One more reason I do not regret my decision to deactivate Fakebook. If you don’t post their snowflake truth, then it is not allowed.
