A 19-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly threatening violence just hours before a vigil for Charlie Kirk at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Authorities say Xaelyn Dunbar made the threats in a Facebook comment on Sept. 15, targeting a post from the San Antonio Young Republicans promoting the event. The vigil, which later drew around 1,000 attendees, was held in memory of the Turning Point USA founder, who was assassinated days earlier while speaking at Utah Valley University.
“This is a disgrace and I can tell you right now ima make sure this won’t be a good nor comforting vigil yall watch and see. Ima make this a movie … me and my truck,” Dunbar allegedly wrote, according to an arrest affidavit. When challenged by another user, he replied: “You’ll see tmr I jus wouldn’t advise tryna stop a Ford 250 Diesel truck. Show yall how much Charlie really means.”
The Southwest Texas Fusion Center flagged the comments and alerted the University of Texas at San Antonio Police Department, which coordinated with San Antonio police and Universal City officers to locate Dunbar at his apartment complex that evening.
Dunbar admitted to making the posts and acknowledged they could be taken as threatening, though he claimed he was “being dumb” and “clowning around.” He also told officers, “Even if I’m 19 years old, that doesn’t mean I won’t still act like a kid.”
When asked if the threats were worth facing charges, Dunbar reportedly responded, “If that’s what it takes, I did what I did, and I can take the consequences.”
He was charged with making a terroristic threat and is currently being held in Bexar County Jail on $40,000 bond.
