Stephen A. Smith, ESPN host, recently called out Vice President Kamala Harris for avoiding media interviews since her campaign began.
Harris, now 25 days into her presidential run, hasn’t faced the press beyond a few brief moments. Smith, who supports her, criticized this approach on his podcast.
"That’s not fair," Smith stated on "The Stephen A. Smith Show."
He highlighted the timeline, noting how long Harris has avoided mainstream media scrutiny.
"Joe Biden stepped down on July 21st," he said. "Since then, we’ve had over three weeks. The only place we’ve seen Kamala Harris is at pep rallies."
"What’s up?" Smith questioned. "Somebody has to speak up, and it shouldn’t just be conservatives. Right is right."
He directly addressed Harris, saying, "You’re running for president. You got my vote. What are you hiding for?"
Smith wasn’t alone in his criticism. The Washington Post editorial board also challenged Harris, noting that even her opponent has taken questions.
CNN’s Jim Acosta also pushed back, asking Harris’ communications director, "Would it kill you guys" to do an interview? The response was a vague promise of one by the end of the month.
Smith continued his critique, "You can’t run for president and avoid press conferences. It’s not fair!"
He also defended conservatives who have criticized Harris for this.
"If you’re a conservative and you’re criticizing her, it’s within your right," Smith said. "All you anti-conservatives, shut up."
Finally, Smith reminded Harris of her connection to Biden's record. "Stand on it," he urged.
