Diet Coke Brings Back Fan-Favorite Flavor in October

Fans of Diet Coke are about to get a blast from the past.

Coca-Cola confirmed that Retro Diet Coke Lime will be returning to shelves nationwide on October 6 — but only for a limited time. The soda, known for its zesty lime flavor, will be sold in 12-pack cartons and 20-ounce bottles. Each comes in a retro neon-lime design featuring the red Diet Coke logo and a lime illustration, nodding back to the early 2000s when the drink first launched.

Food blogger Markie Devo teased the comeback earlier this month, sparking excitement online. “God bless omg,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Omggggg yessss I add true lime packets to my Diet Coke every day so this is amazing.” Others weren’t thrilled about the limited run. “Limited edition, whyyyy,” one person said. “This is the best news EVER,” another cheered.

Diet Coke Lime first launched in 2004 but was discontinued in 2018. It was replaced by Diet Coke Ginger Lime at the time. Its return follows Coca-Cola’s revival of Diet Cherry Coke this past summer, which also came in nostalgic packaging and was sold for a limited period at Kroger-owned stores.

The wave of comebacks ties into Coca-Cola’s recent push into trending soda flavors. Earlier this year, the company debuted Simply Pop, a prebiotic soda with real fruit juice that comes in strawberry, lime, pineapple mango, fruit punch, and citrus punch.

For longtime fans of lime-flavored fizz, the countdown is officially on.
