Costco has introduced a new benefit for its members. They now offer access to GLP-1 weight loss medications, thanks to a partnership with Sesame, a direct-to-consumer healthcare platform.
This program kicked off on Tuesday.
Members can subscribe to Sesame's weight loss plan for $179, a discount from the $195 fee for non-members.
David Goldhill, CEO of Sesame, highlighted the program's significance in the field of medically supervised weight loss.
Subscribers get clinical consultations for personalized treatment plans, Costco explains. Medications may be included if deemed appropriate.
Costco and Sesame began their collaboration last fall, initially offering outpatient medical care. The move towards weight loss programs followed customer interest, Goldhill told USA Today.
GLP-1 medications like Wegovy or Ozempic have seen a surge in popularity. They regulate appetite by mimicking certain hormones.
However, these treatments can be costly, with prices over $1,000 monthly, posing challenges for sustained use, as reported by the Associated Press.
