Comedian Who Calls Herself 'Pretty Liberal' Rips Democratic Party

Stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings has had enough of the political left, accusing them of abandoning their values. She's also firing back at critics annoyed by her recent comments targeting liberals.

In her "Good For You" podcast, Cummings called out the left for becoming hypocritical and overly censorious. "I always thought of myself as a pretty liberal person," she said. "But I don’t think the Left is as liberal as it used to be. It’s like the Left became the party of censorship."

She explained why she felt compelled to speak up about her own political side. "It’s wild to me that, if you’re on the left and don’t criticize your party, how much do you even care about it? I finally just broke," she admitted.

Cummings compared her past support for the left to "Stockholm Syndrome." She added, "If you love your party, you have to be able to criticize it. And I don’t really take sides."

She didn’t hold back on pointing out hypocrisy. "‘My body, my choice, but you have to take this vaccine,’ and ‘Pro-choice party, but you don’t have a choice in your candidate,’" she joked.

Though she avoids deep political dives, Cummings said she’s an expert on hypocrisy. "I was raised by hypocrites, I’ve dated them, and I know hypocrisy when I see it," she said.

Her remarks were prompted by backlash over her New Year’s Eve appearance on CNN. During the broadcast, she mocked liberal media, the Democratic Party’s handling of Biden, and even joked about CNN's small audience size compared to her comedy crowds.

On the podcast, she clarified her intentions. "I didn’t think I was being political. I thought I was just pointing out hypocrisies across the board," she said.

Addressing criticism for not going after Trump in her monologue, she dismissed it. "That’s hacky to do. Everyone’s done that. On CNN, it’s just a cheap shot. There’s nothing risky about it," she concluded.
