CNN is facing a wave of social media backlash after a user highlighted a stark difference in how the outlet framed inflation under President Donald Trump compared to former President Joe Biden.
Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips pointed to a contrast in recent messaging from the network. In March 2023, CNN posted that "US inflation is still high, but it’s falling," after the rate dropped from 6.4% to 6%.
Fast-forward to late 2025, the outlet framed a much lower rate more negatively. They wrote that "US inflation remained at 2.7% in December, underscoring persistent cost of living challenges."
The viral post prompted quick reactions from the White House. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt used the example to accuse the network of pushing "untrue narratives" about the current administration.
Leavitt has repeatedly clashed with reporters like Kaitlan Collins over the economy. She maintains that inflation has slowed to a 2.5% average pace during Trump’s first year back in office.
President Trump recently cheered the steady numbers during a gaggle on Air Force One. He argued that the current affordability fight will be the defining issue of the 2026 midterm battle.
The DOJ and federal economists are currently reviewing the impact of new tariffs on consumer goods. While some critics fear price hikes, the administration insists its "America First" policies are working.
The FBI and DHS have also been tasked with monitoring supply chain security as part of the broader economic strategy. These agencies remain "locked and loaded" to prevent foreign interference in U.S. markets.
Supporters on social media have rallied behind Phillips’ post. They argue it proves a systemic bias at CNN and other mainstream media outlets against the Trump presidency.
