Chocolate Company Recalls Entire Product Line Over Salmonella Contamination Fears

Spring & Mulberry is expanding its recall of select chocolate bars. The company now includes all 12 of its product lines. Federal regulators cite concerns over possible salmonella contamination.

The Friday announcement marks the second widening of the recall. It affects the North Carolina-based food company. The brand is primarily known for sweetening its chocolate bars exclusively with dates.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration provided details on the sudden move. The agency stated it follows an investigation that identified a specific batch of dates. These dates are considered the likely source of the contamination.

"The investigation has now identified a single lot of date ingredient used in the production of the company’s chocolate as the most likely source of contamination," the agency said. This discovery prompted the immediate response from the brand.

Spring & Mulberry is voluntarily recalling all finished products in response. The company is actively pulling everything made using the implicated lot of date ingredients.

Eight products were previously affected in the last recall update. That initial update was publicly announced in January. The latest expansion now includes all 12 flavors listed by the company.

The recent update adds four specific varieties to the official recall list. These additions include the Blood Orange, Coffee, Pure Dark, and Sea Salt flavors. This information comes directly from federal regulators.

The first two rounds of recalls initially affected several other popular flavors. These included Mint Leaf, Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, and Mixed Berry. Mulberry Fennel, Pecan Date, and Pure Dark Minis also remain included in the ongoing recall.

All products included in the expanded recall have tested negative for Salmonella. The FDA officially confirmed this detail in their recent statement. The agency added that no illnesses linked to the recalled products have been reported.

The impacted products were readily available for purchase online. They were also sold through select retail partners nationwide. These specific sales occurred since August 2025.

The affected lot numbers are printed on both the box and inner wrapper. Consumers who purchased any of the listed products are urged to take action. They should not consume the items and must dispose of the product immediately.

Consumers can easily request a full refund for the affected items. They must email a photo of the product packaging showing the batch code. This image should be sent directly to the company.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious health issues. The FDA warned it can cause fatal infections in young children and elderly people. Individuals with weakened immune systems are also at significant risk.

Healthy individuals infected with the organism may experience several common symptoms. These can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe conditions.
