President Trump shared new details about his first assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He recounted how his son, Barron, found out about the attack while playing tennis with friends.
"Someone ran up and said, 'Your father's been shot.' Barron came in asking, 'Mom, what happened?'" Trump said during an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham.
Trump continued, explaining how people initially thought he might be dead. "Then they saw me get up and do the fist bump… it was very interesting."
The rally took place at the same site where Trump was shot in the ear by gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks. The incident happened on July 13, during a previous rally.
Trump recalled being rushed off stage by the Secret Service and taken to a local hospital. He was surprised to learn that the entire hospital was shut down for his arrival. "It was all set up for exactly this," he noted, impressed by the procedure.
After being shot in the ear, Trump was shoved to the ground by Secret Service agents. As they escorted him offstage, he stood up, raised his fist, and mouthed the words, "fight, fight, fight."
He remembered how the crowd was silent, unsure if he was alive. But when he did the fist bump, they started chanting "USA, USA." Trump described it as "the craziest day."
During the rally, Trump held a moment of silence for Corey Comperatore, a rally attendee who was killed while protecting his family during the attack. Trump's speech also acknowledged Comperatore's family, who were present at the rally.
Elon Musk made an appearance at the event, urging the crowd to vote as the election approaches. "Fight, fight, fight, vote, vote, vote," Musk said, even jumping excitedly at one point.
