Bob Costas got caught on a hot mic Monday night during the TBS broadcast of the Yankees-Royals playoff game.
With the Royals up 4-1 in the fifth inning, Costas made an awkward comment. He was on air with Ron Darling, a former Mets star.
"CNN promo? … Puts me in a difficult spot," Costas was heard saying.
Why this promo made him uncomfortable is unclear. Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns TBS, also owns CNN.
Costas has been with CNN since 2020 as a sports contributor. He’s been calling baseball games for TBS since 2021.
The Royals won the game 4-2, tying the series 1-1. Salvador Perez hit a solo home run to start the scoring.
Tommy Pham’s RBI single brought in Yuli Gurriel to take the lead. Maikel Garcia drove in Garrett Hampson, completing a four-run fourth inning.
Garcia went 4-for-5, while Hampson was 2-for-2 on the night.
The Yankees scored first when Giancarlo Stanton’s single brought Gleyber Torres home. Game 3 is Wednesday in Kansas City.
