Billy Joel Serenades the Original 'Uptown Girl' 30 Years Later

Christie Brinkley, once married to Billy Joel, remains his iconic "Uptown Girl." At 70, she was seen at Joel's New York City concert, visibly enjoying the 1983 hit he penned for her. Captured on the jumbotron, Brinkley swayed joyfully to the music, a moment also shared on TikTok where she sang along.

The energy was palpable, with photos capturing Joel passionately serenading Brinkley during the performance. Despite their 1994 divorce, the pair have stayed amicable, sharing a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, who performed at the concert too.

Joel is wrapping up his long-standing residency at Madison Square Garden, set to conclude in July 2024, a tenure that began in January 2014. His relationship with Brinkley also immortalized in "Uptown Girl," confirmed by Joel in 2010 on "The Howard Stern Show."

Initially, Joel started writing the song while dating Elle Macpherson, inspired by being in the company of Brinkley, Macpherson, and Whitney Houston. "Uptown Girls" was the original title, reflecting his awe at the glamorous company he kept.

However, after parting ways with Macpherson, Joel revised the song to singular focus when he started dating Brinkley, making it about her alone, transforming the plural to singular as their relationship blossomed.

Both have moved on since then; Brinkley and Joel have each married four times. Brinkley’s brief marriage to Richard Taubman in 1994 and a longer marriage to Peter Cook from 1996 to 2008 resulted in two more children.

Joel’s marital journey continued with Katie Lee in 2004, ending in 2009, and he is currently married to Alexis Roderick, with whom he has two daughters. Their storied pasts, though intertwined, have led them down separate paths.
