A New Jersey high school baseball team, Delsea Regional High School, went viral after an unexpected win. They were up against Audubon High School in a close game.
In the seventh inning, with Audubon trailing by one, the situation was tense. They had two runners on base and were just an out away from a loss.
Delsea's pitcher, George Starr, feigned a pickoff move to second. It seemed he had thrown the ball, causing confusion that it was in the outfield. In reality, Starr still held the ball and tagged an Audubon runner trying to steal third.
This hidden ball trick clinched the game.
"We were all fooled, and the game is over," said the game's broadcaster, capturing the surprise finish.
Delsea's coach, Joe Smith, praised his team on X, noting, "Kids sold it perfectly."
Earlier, Starr had also driven in the crucial run, putting Delsea ahead. His performance was key to their 4-3 victory.
"Definitely never thought I would wake up to this," Smith expressed his astonishment on X after the play made it onto ESPN’s "SportsCenter."
With this win, Delsea improved to a 5-1 record for the season. They are now one of the top teams in New Jersey’s Tri-County conference. Meanwhile, Audubon's record dropped to 2-3.
