There are few food-related comforts more powerful than realizing a beloved restaurant staple no longer requires a dedicated trip through the drive-thru lane. Why go out of your way for a separate fast-food run when you can stock your own kitchen freezer with the exact same treat?

For Arby's enthusiasts, that exact dream is reportedly about to become a reality.

According to a leak from the popular food-tracking Instagram account @markie_devo, Arby's signature Potato Cakes are preparing to make their official retail debut in frozen form. The account shared a preview image of a retail-ready 27-ounce bag, featuring the distinct Arby’s branding and promising the same crispy, shredded potato patties that fans have spent years clamoring for.

A Turbulent Fast-Food History

Arby’s Potato Cakes have been on a wild, emotional rollercoaster over the last several years.

The chain originally made the controversial decision to pull the classic side from its national menus in 2021. The move was part of a broader menu simplification strategy designed to make room for alternative sides, including the launch of their crinkle-cut fries alongside the brand's iconic curly fries.

However, the fast-food giant vastly underestimated the loyalty of its Potato Cake fanbase. Following years of relentless online petitions, social media campaigns, and vocal customer demands, Arby's finally relented. In the summer of 2024, the chain brought the taters back for a highly publicized limited-time run, promoted by a viral ad campaign starring actor Kyle MacLachlan.

The revival was so phenomenally successful that Arby’s eventually transitioned the side back to its permanent menu in early 2025. Now, the brand is taking the ultimate next step by packaging the legendary sides for home cooks.

Landing in a Freezer Near You

While Arby's has not yet released an official corporate statement or a confirmed list of participating grocery chains, the retail packaging suggests a widespread rollout to major supermarket chains in the very near future.

The move into the retail space represents a massive win for consumers who want to enjoy restaurant-quality sides without having to leave the house. The new 27-ounce retail bags will likely join Arby’s pre-existing line of licensed grocery store products, which already includes highly popular frozen bags of their seasoned Curly Fries and Crinkle Fries.

Social Media Erupts Over the Leak

Unsurprisingly, the rumors of the grocery store expansion have set social media ablaze with excitement from fast-food purists.

"Might be one of the craziest announcements of the year," one enthusiastic fan commented under the initial leak.

Another long-time supporter declared the side "My FAVORITE," while a separate commentator added, "I like hash browns so I know I'll like this." The virtual comment sections have been flooded with gasp, clap, and celebration emojis—a fitting digital reception for a fast-food side that has achieved near-cult status.

Supermarket shoppers will still have to wait for official pricing details and an exact release date. But in the meantime, Arby's fans would be wise to start clearing out some space in their freezers to make room for the ultimate breakfast and dinner starch upgrade.
