The country is very divided on the wearing of masks. Dr. Fauci has been back and forth on whether or not the people in America should be wearing masks.
There has been footage of journalists tearing off their masks as soon as they think it's safe multiple times. Other times the people on camera are wearing masks, but the cameraman is not.
Since this has happened many times, it's easy to see why question if the masks are necessary.
Dr. Fauci has sent mixed messages with regards to masks, along with many other things. While on "60 Minutes" Fauci said the masks were basically pointless, shouldn't be worn and are only good to make some people "feel better."

Joe Biden has made wearing masks a key component of his campaign. He promises an executive order to force people to wear masks.
When you are struggling to base your campaign on anything besides being a Never Trumper, it's hard to come up with valuable campaign promises. So instead you promise things like "masks for everyone."
If masks are still required in January, this country has bigger things to worry about than an executive order for masks.
