Donald Trump, the ex-president, has filed a lawsuit against his former attorney, Michael Cohen, seeking damages exceeding $500 million.
On Wednesday, a lawsuit was lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleging that Michael Cohen breached the attorney-client relationship, engaged in improper enrichment, and disseminated falsehoods. The litigation points to Cohen's public statements, including his publications, and claims that he disregarded "cease and desist" directives.
“This is an action arising from [Cohen’s] multiple breaches of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, conversion and breaches of contract by virtue of [Cohen’s] past service as [Trump’s] employee and attorney,” the lawsuit states.
Apart from seeking over $500 million in damages in the event of a favorable outcome, the legal complaint also pursues a sum of $74,000 that was purportedly acquired by Michael Cohen through deceitful means and an unlawful conversion. The complaint further demands interest and additional expenses and fees.
Lanny Davis, who serves as Michael Cohen's legal counsel, issued a statement in which he claimed that Donald Trump is resorting to the legal system once more to harass and bully Michael Cohen.
“It appears he is terrified by his looming legal perils and is attempting to send a message to other potential witnesses who are cooperating with prosecutors against him,” Davis continued. “Mr. Cohen will not be deterred and is confident that the suit will fail based on the facts and the law.”
Michael Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis accuses Trump of “abusing the judicial system as a form of harassment and intimidation” with his $500 million lawsuit.

Following a substantial escalation in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's inquiry into the alleged hush money payments made by Donald Trump during the 2016 election, the lawsuit was filed. Last week, Trump was indicted by a grand jury on 34 counts of falsifying business records and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Despite testifying to the grand jury and commenting on the case, a source with knowledge of Trump's legal team informed Fox News, which first reported on the lawsuit against Cohen, that the complaint is not related to Alvin Bragg's investigation.
