Obama takes aim at the White House
At a Saturday rally in Cleveland, former President Barack Obama mocked President Donald Trump’s White House renovations and décor. Obama joked that Trump had the building looking like “Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory,” adding, “It’s gold everywhere.” It was a sharp line aimed at the president’s taste, but it also turned building design into another round of political combat. In Washington, even a wall fixture can apparently become a campaign issue.

Trump fires back at Obama
On Monday, LindellTV reporter Cara Castronuova asked Trump about the criticism at Joint Base Andrews, before he left for a campaign trip to Mississippi. Trump did not offer a gentle disagreement. “For you to say it’s a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president,” he said. Trump added that Obama did not understand the work because “he’s not a smart guy,” and argued that only a stupid person would run the country as Obama had. He also accused Obama of overlooking dirt, unpainted areas, broken ornaments, and years of deterioration inside the White House. The response was less a design review than a presidential scorecard, with both men grading each other’s decorating choices and governing records.

Trump defends the renovation work
Trump said the renovations were needed to properly maintain the White House. The work he cited includes tearing down the East Wing to build a ballroom, repairing and repainting the North Portico columns, paving over the Rose Garden, and adding gold wall fixtures to the Oval Office. He said he had taken care of the building with “the finest artisans in the world.” Trump also argued that the White House is a symbol of America and must be maintained properly. That leaves the public with a familiar Washington choice: restoration, redesign, or an expensive argument over both.
Bessent joins the counterattack
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent added his own response on Monday by having lunch at a Cheesecake Factory. Speaking with Fox Business reporter Nicole McManus, Bessent said Obama’s criticism was ironic because Obama’s presidential library looks like “Darth Vader’s tomb.” Bessent also said he visits the restaurant and orders the French dip. Online posts echoed the administration’s mockery, with one calling Obama’s comment the most Martha’s Vineyard thing he had said all year and another joking about the French dip. The White House décor fight has now expanded from presidential remarks to lunch orders, proving that political messaging never met a restaurant it could not turn into a prop.

Obama roasting the Cheesecake Factory is the most Martha's Vineyard thing he's said all year.

I love how he was walking out of the cheesecake factory and saying how much he liked his French dip cheeseburger that was just the funniest thing ever. The trolling from the administration is top notch.

The White House and all of the monuments around Washington look fantastic. All of the United States should be proud of the job that this administration (President Trump) has done. Looking at the before and after pictures there is no comparison.
