Oreo Set to Re-Release One-of-a-kind Flavor After It Sold Out Everywhere

Oreo is giving fans of BTS another reason to check the snack aisle. The brand said its brown sugar pancake sandwich cookies will expand to more countries on Aug. 3, while Walmart is also increasing U.S. availability.

The limited-edition flavor is inspired by hotteok, the Korean-style pancake filled with brown sugar and cinnamon. BTS leader RM has said the group has eaten hotteok since childhood, which helped inspire the collaboration. Oreo also dressed the cookies in purple wafers, a nod to BTS’ signature color.

The expansion will bring the cookies to Mexico, Japan, the European Union, Brazil, Australia and additional markets. In the United States, Walmart is stocking more packs nationwide, giving shoppers another chance to grab them before supplies run out.

The cookies are still limited edition, so the run will not last forever. That is part of the appeal for Oreo collectors and BTS fans, who have been chasing the collaboration since it first started rolling out.

Oreo says the pack includes 13 different cookie embossments designed by BTS to celebrate the group’s 13th anniversary. The designs include BTS-themed images and a set of cookies that form a special message for fans.

The flavor has already built a loyal following. One reviewer said the cookie opened with a strong sugar aroma, a bright purple look and a swirl of white and brown creme. She said the taste leaned caramel-forward with cinnamon and sugar notes, plus a strong crunch.

For shoppers who missed the first release, the wider rollout is the big news. Oreo and BTS appear to be betting that more inventory will translate into more buzz, especially as fans continue to look for limited-run treats.
