The East Coast's migrant crisis has hit New York City, with thousands of undocumented immigrants flocking to the city and being housed in luxurious, taxpayer-funded hotel rooms. However, as the New York Post reports, not all of these migrants are content with their experience.
Some have decided to take advantage of the "free tickets" offered to travel north to Canada, where they hope for a better quality of life with lower levels of homelessness and drug abuse. "I am going to Canada for a better quality of life for my family," said Raymond Peña, a migrant, to the New York Post.
Others, however, have not been so fortunate. One migrant reported being "evicted" from the Row Hotel near Times Square and relocated to a homeless shelter in Brooklyn.
The Row Hotel has faced its own set of problems, with videos and photos released by a whistleblower showing illegal immigrants causing damage, wasting food, and engaging in illicit activities such as drug use, domestic violence, and sexual activities in the stairways.
Mayor Eric Adams of New York City has begged the White House for assistance in handling the ongoing crisis, with nearly 21,000 migrants having arrived in the city via buses since last year. Despite this, the Mayor's office has also taken a pro-migrant stance, offering asylum seekers free roundtrip tickets on the NYC Ferry every day.
Manuel Rodon, a Venezuelan migrant, expressed his concern to the New York Post regarding the rampant drug use in New York City. As the crisis continues to unfold, it remains to be seen what the future holds for these migrants, and how the city and country will respond to their needs.
Would also note that asylum seekers are also being provided with free roundtrip tickets on a NYC Ferry every day. https://t.co/d0c4ZxtNVa
