Doritos Releases Product No One Will Buy Just Before the Holidays

PepsiCo and bespoke alcohol creator Empirical have joined forces to unveil a novel spirit that mimics the taste of a Doritos nacho cheese chip.

Empirical's website describes the Empirical x Doritos Nacho Cheese Vacuum Distilled Spirit as embodying "all the indulgent flavors of your favorite Nacho Cheese in liquid form."

This unique drink will be available for pre-order starting Wednesday, representing a creative marketing strategy targeting Doritos enthusiasts. This launch is a first, offering a spirit that completely revolves around the essence of a Doritos product. Set to be released next month, it will be accessible online and in selected stores across New York and California. Priced at $65, each bottle contains 750ml of this innovative beverage.

Collaborations like this have happened before.

Back in 2022, Kellogg Co. teamed up with Sugarlands Distilling Co. to bring to market an alcoholic Egg Nog variant. The creation, named "Eggo Nog Appalachian Sippin' Cream," was a rum-infused liqueur flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg.

In that same period, Arby's introduced a smoked bourbon beverage that echoed the taste of its Smoked Brisket sandwich. Preceding this, a year earlier, the company joined forces with another partner to produce a Crinkle Fry Vodka, designed to replicate the taste of its iconic curly and crinkle fries.
